Practices and Games:

  • Practices are limited to the coaches and players. Family members and friends may NOT stay for practice.
  • Prior to the start of practice or a game, head coaches must conduct temperature checks and must ask each player and volunteer the following two questions (App based screening, such as TeamSnap may be used as a substitute for in-person screening provided these are the questions):
    • 1.    Are you experiencing any of the following symptoms? Fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, loss of taste, fatigue, congestion not related to allergies, vomiting, diarrhea.
    • 2.  Have you been exposed to someone with Covid-19 in the past 2 weeks or been told to quarantine or isolate by a doctor or department of health official?
  • Players, coaches, staff, and volunteers who have a fever on screening of over 100.0 F, or answer YES to either of the two screening questions will not be permitted to participate in any game or practice and will be sent home immediately. If any individual develops symptoms of COVID-19 during practice, they should promptly inform a coach, be removed from practice, kept socially distant from others, and sent home.
  • Practices should focus on skills building activities as much as possible in order to attempt to maintain social distancing.
  • Players should have their own individual basketball. Each player’s basketball, drink, equipment bag, coat, etc. must be stored in its own separate space, consistent with social distancing measures.
  • Carpooling to practices and games should be discouraged whenever possible.
  • Only one team should be practicing on each court at a time. Practices should end on time, and teams should be staggered with 15-minute intervals in between to allow for one team to exit completely before the other team arrives.  Teams may NOT enter the gym until their practice time.  Players need to wait in their cars until practice starts, and may NOT congregate in the hallways or other enclosed spaces.  They may enter once the other team has left.  Rides for players must arrive on time as players are departing.
  • Whenever feasible, doors to the outside should be propped open to allow for increased airflow and ventilation within the gymnasium during practice.

Game Rules (for our teams at all times and for opponents if games are hosted in our facility):

  • Players must wear masks when not in the game (on the bench). Coaches and scorekeepers must wear masks at all times.  Players on the bench should be spread out and bleachers/stands may be used to allow for social distancing.
  • When players arrive at the gym, they are to be screened as noted above. They should immediately be given hand sanitizer to use (or they may use their own upon arrival).
  • Players on the court are NOT required to wear masks, but are allowed to if they or their family would prefer they do so.
  • When players come out of the game for substitution, they must immediately use hand sanitizer and put their mask back on.
  • Whenever possible, teams’ benches should be placed on opposite sides of the court and opposite ends of the gym, keeping the two teams as far apart as possible.
  • Hi-fives, huddles, and other team activities must be conducted with no contact whatsoever. There should be no post-game handshakes.
  • Any coach arguing with an official who violates either the mask wearing policy or social distancing policy may be removed by the official immediately.
  • Teams should line up after the game, face each other, wish each other good game and good luck, but there MUST be no contact between the two teams.
  • Teams must exit the facility as soon as possible after the conclusion of the game.
